So here it is, the highly anticipated Spider-man reboot properly named “The Amazing Spider-man”.
This entry to the famous Marvel Comics franchise is directed by Marc Webb, director of (500) Days of Summer, starring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-man and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy among others.
A teaser trailer was already featured on this blog but it didn’t gave a proper look at Spidey in action, this one does, and very well if I may say.
Without further due , I’ve embedded the trailer below, so you can enjoy it for yourself:
So there you have. The movie was shot with the new RED Epic camera, which means that it will look spectacular on IMAX 3D.
The movie will be released this July 3rd .
Marc Webb’s Spider-man reboot is being filmed in 3D, but not with any camera. They are using the Epic Red Digital Camera, the one also being used for The Hobbit as stated a few days ago by Peter Jackson himself.
The camera is making a lot of buzz in the industry right now for its unrivaled image quality that can achieve IMAX quality footage on a digital medium (pretty groundbreaking if you ask me…)
John Schwartzman, who is the director of photography on the movie, stated this on Red’s official forum. He sounds very optimistic and amazed by this technology.

Peter Jackson announced that for his epic production “The Hobbit”, he’ll use 30 Epic Red digital cameras from Red Digital Cinema. Those cameras are pretty much the revolution on digital movie making, launched in 2007 by Oakley founder Jim Jannard, these toke the film industry by storm by offering high quality digital ‘film’ that rivals, and even surpass, traditional film, costing only a fraction of what a 35mm film costs.
Peter Jackson already made use of this camera in the past, he even made a short film entirely with one of the prototypes a couple of years ago, even his produced “District 9” sci-fi movie was entirely shot with Red One cameras.
But for The Hobbit, Jackson has bigger plans, he’ll use the next-generation of this cameras with a 3D setup, the Red Epic camera. It offers a higher resolution (almost matching IMAX quality) and it can capture up to 120 frames per second.
What does this means? Well, for the end customer we can expect a IMAX 3D release with these cameras without scarifying the quality of the overall picture. For the film-makers, this will ease the post-production process since it’s all digital and also allow them to shot much more without spending more money on film, which is really liberating for traditional movie directors.
But remember, these are only tools, it’s all upon the artist to make great use of it, but since we’re talking about Peter Jackson here, expect epic stuff (pun intended) coming from this.
