As expected, Disney released the trailer of Imagemovers Digital new (and last?) production.
The movie is directed and written by Simon Wells and produced by Robert Zemeckis.
It tells the story of a young boy named Milo (Seth Green) who sees his mother being abducted. He tries to rescue her by jumping into the spaceship that leads to Mars.
Movie looks fun, I understand the concerns of the style being weird, not realistic enough, creepy, etc. but I think this is the point of these movies, to be surreal and not realistic. But that’s just me.
The movie is set for release this March 11th 2011 on IMAX 3D and Digital 3D theaters.
Walt Disney Studios just released the poster of Robert Zemeckis performance capture production ‘Mars Needs Moms’’.
This movie, along with the 3D remake of The Yellow Submarine done with the same technology , will be the last movies produced by the label and production company ImageMovers Digital, which is sad, because I loved every production made by this studio. Sure, The Polar Express was a little creepy when it came out, but I find the combination of animation and motion capture a strange and surreal mix, it’s almost magical, like if you were forced to suspend your belief when you’re watching those films because you know that everything is fake. You just had to suck the magic of the story. I found them quite charming. I’m sad that it was short lived, but with other productions made with performance capture, such as Tintin, I’m relieved that it won’t be the total end of this trend (you just love it or hate it, but since Avatar did fantastically at the boxoffice, I think there’s a market for more of it) .
The movie is being directed by Simon Wells, who has a good animation background under his belt, and he also made a remake of “The Time Machine” on 2002, which on its turn is an adaptation of the famous novel made by H.G. Wells (his great grandfather).
Here’s the official plot description:
Take out the trash, eat your broccoli – who needs moms, anyway? Nine-year-old Milo finds out just how much he needs his mom when she’s nabbed by Martians who plan to steal her mom-ness for their own young. Milo embarks on a quest to save his mom – a wild adventure that involves stowing away on a spaceship, navigating an elaborate, multi-level planet and taking on the alien nation and their leader. With the help of a tech-savvy, underground earthman named Gribble and a rebel Martian girl called Ki, Milo just might find his way back to his mom – in more ways than one.
The movie will hit theaters on March 11, 2011 in Digital Disney 3D and IMAX 3D.
Stay tuned for the trailer, which will come out in a few months from now.
